Over the years, the building and construction industry has gone through several changes and continue to do so right in front of our eyes. We understood early on that our training needs to keep up with rapid technological change. As such, Skill Hire made modifications to the units of competency of the Certificate III course in Carpentry and Joinery we deliver to our students.
The BlueScope Steel project is a collaboration between Skill Hire and BlueScope Steel to provide our Certificate III students with the opportunity to be among the first in Western Australia to complete the all new Steel Framing Component of the course. Through training provided by Skill Hire’s highly experienced Construction trainers, our Apprentices were able to put theories learned in the classroom to practice by constructing a life-size house from a mix of solid steel frames and traditional wood frames.
Steel framing is becoming more popular in recent times due to its speed and accuracy. Steel alloy is also versatile and can be used in different ways, shapes and forms. Through this project, our students received hands on experience in working with steel framing. Besides working with steel alloy and timber, the students have gained other skills that will help them in their career.
Our new unit of competency has given students the opportunity to diversify and increase their future employment opportunities as they now understand how to work with both steel and timber framing. With their newly acquired skills, there is no doubt that these students will go on to succeed in the building and construction industry. Skill Hire is proud of the excellent work done by our Certificate III Carpentry and Joinery students. We would like to thank BlueScope Steel for their support and collaborating with us on this project.
