The Federal Government recently rolled out an initiative called Career Transition Assistance (CTA) when they identified a gap in the market for mature-aged job seekers who need extra assistance finding employment. Skill Hire is proud to be part of this great initiative and delivers the program throughout metropolitan and regional Western Australia.
CTA is for people aged 45 years and older to help increase their job opportunities by developing their digital skills. The program helps job seekers by building their confidence, identifying their transferable skills and teaching them how to tailor job applications to available jobs based on their skill set and experience.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, there are 90,000 unemployed mature-aged people in Australia. Once unemployed, this cohort faces greater challenges re-entering the workforce. Statistics reveal that the average period of unemployment for mature-aged job seekers is 75 weeks whereas, the average duration is 48 weeks for other age groups. Moreover, one third of mature-aged people face long term unemployment (52 weeks or more) while only one in four people from other age groups experience the same.
Of the many challenges faced by mature-aged job seekers, lack of knowledge or confidence using different types of technology such as smartphones, tablets, apps, social media channels and computers serve as a barrier for employment. As part of the program, we teach participants how to make the most of technology when looking for work as well as how to apply for jobs online.
In the 8-week program delivered by our experienced facilitators, participants will receive assistance with:
- developing a career roadmap and unique personal brand
- identifying the participant’s existing skills and how to transfer them to other jobs or industries
- identifying local job opportunities and the skills required to be considered for those opportunities
- updating and tailoring participant’s job application (resume and cover letter) for suitable roles
- using technology to search and apply for jobs
- finding work experience placements
