Skill Hire’s Registered Training Organisation (RTO), Group Training (GT) and Labour Hire divisions have come together to provide a pathway to employment for a group of Indigenous participants.
After a presentation to Aboriginal Workforce Development, McKay Drilling approached our Group Training staff members and advised they would like Skill Hire to assist with initiating an Indigenous traineeship program. Discussions between our RTO and GT culminated in our RTO scheduling a Certificate II in General Construction to provide the participants with basic requirements for working in construction including WHS, safe work practices, team communication units, hand skills and technical skills. Through our labour hire division’s robust recruitment process, 15 participants were chosen from a large group referred through jobactive Providers across the Perth metropolitan area.
The course is scheduled for 12 weeks and after successful completion, participants will transfer the skills they have learnt into employment as driller’s offsiders as part of labour hire’s employee base. McKay Drilling will then employ all suitable participants as trainee drillers.
A very successful engagement and training process that enhances participants skills, knowledge and work readiness, and will provide the employer with a skilled workforce prior to the commencement of a traineeship.
Three Skill Hire business streams working together to achieve the outcome!
